"I have to." Kanda answers simply. In his line of work he had to be ready for anything, he could be suddenly surrounded by akuma at any time. But in this place, while he is still ready to defend himself but wasn't keen on starting anything.
"Kanda." Even though the phones would likely out his first name, Kanda rarely gave it out to people. He preferred to be called by his last name. "So does that mean I was right about you being some kind of military?"
"Yes." There were a lot of things he could elaborate on, but Kanda probably wouldn't have been interested. He had grown up learning how to handle guns, working on self defense, and he even learned the basics and some more advanced first aid techniques. It happened in a world where the enemy was literally hiding out in the moon's rubble.
"Recently things have calmed down, so that's not as important." At least it hadn't been. This was why he wore an eye patch, why he had decided to take the cybernetic eye out.
Inaho kept up his easy pace, only pausing when someone, a random faceless student stumbled into his blind side. He moved though without faltering and continued to quietly keep Kanda on the side where he could watch him, "Are you from military?"
"I don't think things have ever been calm where I'm from." Every since he woke in the pool room there was always war, always some struggle whether it was personal or otherwise. Once again he didn't seem upset or even spiteful, just stating facts.
"It could be classified that way." He stepped around a pair of native students in his way, his long ponytail swaying behind him. "I'm an exorcist, but we are basically the Black Order's army." Kanda doesn't offer more free information, but that didn't mean it was off limits.
The way the other spoke relaxed him a little. He asked pointed questions and gave answers himself. It allowed Inaho to gather what he needed to surmise the other wasn't a threat. At least for now, "I see. There are a number of combatants and non-combatants all drawn here. It's interesting how different each one is."
He had talked to several people and observed several more in the process. He wasn't too worried about most people here, though there were definitely several he'd stay away from for now.
"Have you decided what you will do when night falls?"
"Age doesn't seem to be a factor either." Which was only a little strange to Kanda considering the native students seemed to be in their mid to late teen years. He isn't that well acquainted with high school, so he's been going off observations mostly.
Kanda didn't feel threatened by anything he's met yet, but that could change.
Lavi and Alma. The two names didn't ring any bells. Probably people he hadn't run into yet. Quietly, he nods and looks to the other as he pauses and looks around where they had ended up. He had been wandering around and again found himself in the same exact spot that he had been at least two times in a row.
"I wonder why the building leads people around like it does. Is it trying to hide something..."
He pushes that questions to the back of his mind so he can turn it over and figure it out later. "Is there anywhere you want to go?"
"It's definitely trying to hide something." The changing hallways is strange for Kanda but not entirely new. But it's also something you can't really get used to. Mostly it annoyed him that he had to walk all over creation to get certain places.
"All the locked doors, the hand prints on the windows..." He shakes his head slowly. "Something definitely sinister about it all."
Kanda shrugs at Inaho's question. "As long as I stay away from the pool I'll be fine. Something tells me we'll have a long time to explore this school."
"Can you not swim?" A blunt question since the other did mention he didn't want to go around the pool. Inaho had never visited the pool himself because there was no need to. There was no reason for him to go try and swim since he wasn't in this place to have fun or relax.
The other's comments about the sinister feel of the school made Inaho think of a truly sinister feeling place. "Have you been to the courtyard?"
"I can swim!" He answers all to quickly, and a little indignant. Kanda did know how to swim but only the very basics of how not to drown. He learned almost reluctantly since he was drowned once or twice as a child. Overall it was a sore subject.
Kanda takes a deep breath and focuses instead on the second questions, hoping to move the conversation forward instead of stalling on his swimming ability. "Not much, it's always raining or something when I go by the door. Why?"
He's not one to push at others especially when they answer that quick about something they don't like. He wouldn't press the swordsman at all, after all he hated to be pressed to much about annoying matters too. When the other answers about the courtyard he shrugs, "I wanted to see what your impression of it was."
"My only impression is that it was wet so far." Kanda shrugs in return, he really hadn't checked it out. He glares at a native student after they bump into him.
He turns on his heel, starting back down the hallway. "I need to go find someone before it gets dark. If you find anything interesting, let me know."
Inaho watches him for a second and shrugs as he turns and continues on his way. The other seemed to be doing just fine on his own, so Inaho wasn't about to offer any assistance. If anything, Kanda would probably seek him out if he needed something.
